The go-ahead has been given for work to begin on 25 September to create new residential living areas on the ground floor of Heathlands Village main building.

The work is the final phase of the charity’s redevelopment project which began in 2013. Work on the new housing is due to be completed by 25 May.

CEO Mark Cunningham explained,

“We are creating a state-of-the-art 21st century care environment to meet the needs of a growing population of older people who are living with dementia.

The design of the new living areas is domestic -style, with residents living in smaller households, with easy access to outdoor spaces.æ Thisætype of configuration is known to enhance the well-being of people living dementia. They can take part in simple domestic tasks which give a sense of purpose, go outdoors independently and enjoy the familiarity of a homely environment.”
