Five staff members and 28 residents of Heathlands Village and tenants of its independent living community, Moorview, took part again this year in the annual Motiview Road Worlds for Seniors.

Totting up a massive 1746.5km over 108 hrs The Fed team came first in the Northwest, third in England and 33rd worldwide.

Marigold Lee, who is a keen exponent of assisted cycling expressed her enjoyment of biking: “It stimulates and encourages me to try and walk more and generally be more active.”

First introduced to the home in 2018, the system combines video footage, music and specially adapted bikes, to create an immersive cycling experience for older people. They can select a ride that takes them anywhere from a local park to the streets of Paris or Jerusalem.

As well as encouraging exercise it has a positive impact on wellbeing, sleep, and general mobility, especially for people living with dementia.

On Wednesday 17 January, The Fed’s Clinical Director, Karen Johnson had the pleasurable task of presenting certificates and medals to those who took part.
