Road Worlds for Seniors is a global cycling competition for older people and those with dementia. The participants get motivated to cycle through a choice of 2,000 routes from around the world which link their static exercise bikes to video technology. Engineered by Motitech in Norway, Heathlands Village residents have been joining in the worldwide sporting competition since 2017.

This year, quite wonderfully, Team Heathlands came first in the Northwest and 26th in the overall global standings – a remarkable achievement. A massive well done to all our cyclists! Residents and tenants took part in a presentation afternoon when they received their certificates, recording the distances each covered, and medals.

Chief Executive, Mark Cunningham, paid tribute to their achievement in a speech, and Clinical Manager, Karen Johnson presented the medals and certificates. Cyclists included Sylvia Rosenthal who turns 100 in a few months and Ralph Marcus who, aged 94, clocked up a staggering 191km. Heathlands’ activity team staff also took part and received medals and certificates.

We wish all participants the best of luck in the 2023 competition where, who knows, Heathlands Village could break into the world’s top 25!
