25 children, parents and carers joined The Fed’s recent Family Fun Day trip to Gulliver’s World, organised and supported by a team of staff and volunteers.

The trip is run every year as part of our Community Services holiday activities for families who use our services. These include, not exclusively, those with youngsters with additional needs, who attend The Fed’s Stay & Play sessions and holiday camps throughout the year, and others who attend our weekly Mums ‘n’ Tots group.

The outing received excellent feedback from parents and its success was evidenced by the beaming faces of the children in the photos taken during the day.

Importantly, it provided some much-needed fun for the children, many of whom are unable to attend regular communal activities due to their care needs.

For many families using our services for children, outings are only possible when parents have the back-up of a professional team, who can ‘share the care’ and be an extra pair of vigilant eyes.

Belinda Rich is a mum to four children, two of whom have a diagnosis of autism: “It was an excellent trip; very well organised and the children had so much fun. It would have been really hard for us all to enjoy an outing like this without it being run by The Fed. Normally I can’t look forward to taking the kids out as it is just so stressful for us as parents, but we were able to totally relax and enjoy ourselves as much as they did.”

This year’s trip was sponsored by the Silvera family in memory of the late Alex Silvera z”l.
