Hi.
I’m Sophia and I’m raising money for The Fed’s My Voice Project as part of my Bat Mitzvah year.
To do this I will be going to the Lake District with my dad and a group of around 40 other children and their parents to climb two mountains over the weekend of 4 – 6 July: Blencathra (868m / 2,848ft) and Helvellyn (950m / 3,117ft — the third highest in England!). It’s a really big challenge but something I hope I will be able to compete.
I’ve chosen to raise money for The Fed because I have recently completed their fantastic Bar/Bat Mitzvah Programme and wanted to give something back to this fantastic charity. I wanted to support their My Voice Project in particular because my mum works on this project which is dedicated to preserving the life stories of Holocaust survivors and refugees. These are recorded in their own words, as “whole-life-story books” – deeply personal, powerful accounts that span their entire lives. These unique books are used across schools, universities, and museums to educate future generations about the Holocaust and the resilience of those who lived through it.
