I’m not usually one for sponsored runs, walks, swims or even sponsored silence! This request is different and personal – let me explain why.
In the summer of 1945, my late Dad, Solly Irving zl, landed in Carlisle as a 15 year old Holocaust survivor whose entire family had been wiped out. He was taken from Carlisle to Windermere where, with many of the other infamous “Boys”, he began a process of rehabilitation.
That 50km journey helped Dad build a life. It helped rebuild his spirit and faith. Dad’s children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are testament to his success and proudly continue his legacy.
So, on 8 and 9 June 2025, I am retracing Dad’s journey by walking with others from Carlisle to Windermere. I am doing it in aid of the My Voice project (https://myvoice.org.uk/), a programme which helps preserve the stories of the Windermere children whose lives were transformed following that 50km journey.
As part of Holocaust education and to help teach people how anti-Semitism will never prevail if our spirit remains strong, please donate whatever you can to support this initiative. I’d like to raise a minimum of £1,800 with your generous support.
Thank you
