Keen knitter Caroline Manackerman recently offered her skills to bring comfort to vulnerable children.
A volunteer since 2011 with Prestwich charity The Fed, Caroline is a familiar face at Heathlands Village where she visits regularly, and where she has befriended many residents.
Earlier this year, she approached The Fed to offer her support in a very different way – by knitting for the charity’s service-users. The Community Advice and Support Team (CAST) jumped at the chance to receive some cosy blankets for local youngsters who use the charity’s Children’s Centre.
Caroline, who was a devoted carer for her mother until her recent death, presented Carol Booth, the centre’s Play Leader with her handiwork in the gardens at Heathlands Village at the end of July.
Carol said “A lot of the children we look after are on the autistic spectrum and often seek comfort and security from a warm blanket. They wrap themselves up to feel safe and snug. This is a wonderful gift from Caroline.”
