Moorview Independent Living

Supported Independent Living

Moorview is a supported independent living facility run by The Fed, at Heathlands Village in Prestwich, Manchester, with attractive, privately rented accommodation for older people.

Our flats and apartments are unfurnished so you can bring your own furniture.

Moorview is perfect if you still want your independence but need some extra support.

For added peace of mind, the accommodation has a nurse call system for emergencies.

And our tenants have the benefit of being able to use the many facilities at Heathlands Village.

Tenants who cannot afford to pay their rent privately may be eligible for housing benefit.

Couples with differing care needs

A tenancy of Moorview can offer a best solution to older couples who have different care needs. This can  sadly mean they face living separately,  due to one them needing 24hr care.

However, subject to availability, they can both move to Heathlands Village – one spouse receiving residential or nursing care and the other moving into Moorview.  This will mean they can spend as much time together as possible.

Personal care and support

Moorview tenants who need help with personal care and support can buy this in from Care at Home – a domiciliary care service which is also run by the Fed.

Care at Home staff offer support with activities, such as dressing, showering and remembering to take medication.

How much support you have depends on your individual needs and wishes and can change if your needs change over time.

You may be able to receive help with the cost of personal care from your Local Authority.  You would first need to have an assessment of your care needs and financial circumstances.

General support

Moorview tenants also receive “general support” from our Housing Support Workers. The cost of this is included in your rent.

This helps you with things like:

•   Looking after your property (not cleaning)
•   Keeping up with your domestic, life and social skills
•   Managing your money and claiming benefits
•   Socialising and joining in activities
•   Remembering your medication
•   Keeping you independent
•   Keeping you safe
•   Accessing support from communal organisations

It also covers:

•   advice, advocacy support and liaising with people on your behalf
•   keeping a check on your health and well-being
•   an emergency alarm
•   giving you emotional support

Tenants can have their meals in Balcombe Hall – the main restaurant at Heathlands Village or they can cook at home.

We charge for meals in the restaurant meals as well as physiotherapy, hairdressing appointments, our laundry service and some entertainment.

Please not that Moorview tenants are required to pay council tax as they are occupying their own home, but may be eligible for reductions.

The Moorview scheme is regulated by Supporting People.
