After two years off, I’ve decided to up the ante by taking part in two fundraising treks within just three weeks!
The first, on Sunday 18 May, is to fundraise for The Fed in general, and I’m participating in the London 16 Bridges Challenge, walking 25km from Putney Bridge to Southwark.
The Fed is an amazing charity, supporting people of all ages across the Greater Manchester Jewish community and of all levels of religious observance and Jewish identity. The Fed supports one in seven Jewish homes in the community with its life enhancing – and often lifesaving – work.
And before my joints have a chance to recover and my blisters heal, on 8 and 9 June I’m embarking on another challenging trek in aid of The Fed’s My Voice project this time walking 50km from Carlisle to Windermere!
Why am I putting my body through double torture? Isn’t the London Bridges Challenge enough? No! The Fed’s My Voice Project is just too important.
Two years ago, I walked from Theresienstadt, from where some of the Windermere Children were liberated, to Prague.
On the 80th anniversary of their liberation, I will honour their journey with this trek, retracing their steps from Carlisle Airport – where they landed – to the Calgarth Estate on the shores of Lake Windermere, where they began their rehabilitation and learned to live again.
The My Voice project is a unique storytelling initiative which empowers Holocaust Survivors and Refugees to tell the stories of their whole lives – before, during and after the Holocaust. Their reflections are recorded, transcribed, and illustrated into individual life-story books. As the project is part of The Fed, it allows the storytellers to directly access ‘wraparound’ support should they need it.
My Voice books ensure that these stories will never be forgotten and provide vital educational resources to combat Holocaust denial.
In these uncertain times, it is more important than ever to keep the My Voice testimonies alive by encouraging and assisting survivors to write their life stories, in their own words, and accompanying them to educational establishments so they can share their stories first hand while they are still able.
All the money I raise will support The Fed and The Fed’s My Voice project. Any donation, big or small, is greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much
