On the 27th April 2025 I’ll be running the London marathon – something I’ve dreamed of my whole life. After finishing a half-marathon a few years ago, I swore I’d never go through that again (and here I am, preparing to do double the distance!).
But this time, it feels different, as I’m running in memory of my grandpa.
As many of you know, my grandpa was my biggest role model and my best friend. The past two years without him have been some of the hardest of my life. He left us too soon, and every milestone he misses feels even more profound, including my first marathon.
Grandpa never missed an athletics competition when I was younger and even though he can’t be there in person, I know he’ll be with me every step of the way. Running this race in his memory means everything to me; I know how much joy it would have brought him to see me cross that finish line.
I’ve chosen to run in my grandpa’s name for The Fed, a charity he greatly admired. I’ve seen firsthand the incredible work The Fed does in Manchester to support people of all ages – from Heathlands Village, where both my great-grandmas lived, to the children’s centre that supports families and children across the community. Fundraising for The Fed was an easy decision, knowing the impact they have and how central they are to our community in Manchester.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Any donation, big or small, would be so appreciated.
