A group of young Arab and Jewish Israeli student teachers from Bet Kerem in Jerusalem took a tour of
our facilities at Heathlands Village this week, as part of a fact-finding tour of communities in the United Kingdom.
The group, all of whom are studying to be early-years education teachers, was taken round the site by Activity Centre Deputy Manager, Jennifer Berger, and Volunteer Training and Recruitment Officer, Dalia Kaufman. They were especially interested to see The Fed’s Children’s Centre, where one of the students remarked “how amazing it is that there is something for all ages here, not just older people.”
After a full site visit, the students split up into small groups and took part part in a range of activities with residents around theævillage, whilst others accompanied residents on a trip to a nearby synagogue. The residents loved the time they spent with their visitors, and many successfully carried out conversations in a mixture of English and Ivrit!
After meeting back for lunch, the group was addressed by The Fed’s CEO, Mark 
Cunningham, who gave a brief outline of the charity’s history.
He explained to our visitors that many people living in Heathlands Village still lead active and full lives, and thanked them for giving the residents the greatest gift of all – a chance to stop and enjoy a conversation.
