I am going to be walking 24 miles of the beautiful Yorkshire three peaks to raise money for The Fed.
My legendary Grandpa Gerry moved into Heathlands a couple of years ago as he suffers from vascular dementia.
Naturally I was devastated but as I visited each week and got to know the staff more and just how incredible they are, my heart started to feel more settled knowing he was getting the best possible care ever!!
I desperately wanted to be a part of such a wonderful charity, so I started to volunteer. At first taking a gorgeous lady shopping and getting involved with the activities centre, then helping on dance night. Getting to know a whole different department and gaining more and more insight and knowledge into the charity and all the work they do in Heathlands Village and the community, I wanted more!!
I spent many months looking on their jobs page until I applied and was given the opportunity to become their Community Fundraiser and Events Planner. I have now been an employee for five months and as I learn about the in-depth details of how The Fed operates and get to know different members of staff in different departments, residents, families of residents and people in the community I become more and more passionate about raising money both personally and as an employee.
As the granddaughter of a resident (my gorgeous Grandpa Golly), a volunteer and an employee I see from every angle; I see the dedication and the passion, I see the hard work and the long hours, I see the tears, laughs, love and loss.
Which makes it so easy for me to sign up for a challenge like this as tough as it will be🤗
So please donate for me, my grandpa and for my lovely Fed family who all work incredibly hard.
