The Fed Website Privacy and Cookies Policy

1. Introduction

The Fed is committed to protecting and respecting your privacy and personal data.

We strictly adhere to all fundraising and data protection legislation and guidelines.

We take all necessary steps to ensure that personal data is kept secure at all times against unauthorised or unlawful loss or disclosure.

Employees of The Fed who process personal information understand that they are responsible for following good data protection practice.

This policy, together with our terms and conditions, and any other documents referred to in it, sets out the basis on which any personal data we collect from you, or that you provide to us, will be processed and stored by us.

2. What information we collect

The type and amount of personal information we collect from you via this website depends on how you use this website. We collect three types of information:

  1. Anonymous data that is automatically collected from all visitors
  2. Personal data that you voluntarily submit in connection with activities set out below
  3. Financial data that you voluntarily submit in connection with any of the relevant activities set out below

If you submit such information, we will ensure that it is only used for the purpose for which it was submitted and will ensure that the data is held securely.

You may be asked to supply personal information (anything that enables us to identify you in some way, such as your name and email address) via The Fed’s website in order to:

  1. make a donation
  2. support a Fed fundraiser
  3. buy a ticket or register for an event
  4. buy a gift card or other item
  5. apply for a job vacancy
  6. apply to be a volunteer
  7. make an enquiry about any of our services or other information or material
  8. subscribe to our e-bulletin or other publication

3. Cookies and Anonymous Data

Cookies and Consent:

We may collect and record information, which you have not submitted, in order to understand more about how our site is used eg through Google Analytics.  To do this we may send cookies to your PC or other device.

By browsing our site, you accept our use of cookies and consent to this.

In order to remember that you have accepted our use of cookies, we will place a temporary cookie to remember your consent for 3 months and automatically issue a new consent request after this time.

Some cookies do not relate to our website such as pages, concerning the processing of donations by our payment service provider or pages containing embedded content such as videos, Twitter feed, Facebook likes.  You may receive cookies delivered from these websites.

4. Storing and using your data

All information you provide to us is held securely in accordance with the Data Protection Act) 1998 (DPA) and the GDPR (EU General Data Protection Regulation) which will replace the DPA in the UK in May 2018.

The data that we collect from you may be transferred to, and stored at, a destination outside the European Economic Area (“EEA”). By submitting your personal data, you agree to this transfer, storing or processing. We will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this privacy policy.

We will use the information we hold about you to deal with the purpose/s for which you supplied it to us, as set out in paragraph 3 above, and to improve our understanding of how our site is used as per paragraph 4 above.

Processing your financial data

In order to process Direct Debit or Credit Card transactions we will ask for your card details. To ensure the maximum level of security is applied to your data, all transmissions over the internet are encrypted using SSL (Secure Sockets Layer).

Credit Card, Debit Card and bank detail information is not retained on our web servers, but is transferred to our PCI compliant payment gateway services (for the purpose of collecting and recording payments).


The Fed does not rent or sell mailing details to any third party.

The Fed website includes links to other sites, not owned or managed by The Fed. We cannot be held responsible for the privacy of data collected by websites not managed by The Fed.
