Difficult to get out these days? Too much time alone? Finding it a strain being a carer?
Heathlands Village day services are a great way to spend time with other people and enjoy all sorts of different activities with a little “TLC” thrown in.
OR They can enable carers to have a break from looking after an elderly loved-one.
The service is suitable for people with different levels of care needs, including people living with dementia.
It can be combined with other services such as home-care and volunteer support to help you remain in your own home, live independently.
For carers, day-services allow our professional care staff to take over while you switch off. You can take a break from caring, with confidence and peace of mind.
Day-services may help you remain in employment or deal with other important responsibilities, while we look after your loved-one.
Bathing service, physiotherapy and hairdressers’
People who come to our day-services at Heathlands Village can take advantage of other services, right on the spot. These include our bathing service, physiotherapist and hairdressing salon (subject to additional charges).
And how you spend your time with us at Heathlands Village is also up to you.
You can join in group activities or keep to yourself, knowing there’s always someone around if you need support or feel like a chat.
A typical day
Our Activity team will help you decide how you want to spend your time with us, but to give you an idea:
In the morning you could do some arts and crafts or baking; take part in a quiz, discussion or Jabadao session – a kind of exercise therapy to music. Or maybe you’d prefer to read the paper quietly and watch a little TV.
Following this, there’s lunch in Balcombe Hall with a delicious kosher menu offering a great range of choice.
Meals are freshly prepared in our own kitchens and supervised by Manchester Beth Din. You might prefer a bite to eat in our lovely new Central Cafe.
Afternoons often bring visits from local entertainers, or there are sing-alongs or music appreciation sessions, cinema screenings and trips to go on.
A short stay?
Day-service users sometimes spend a short stay with us at Heathlands Village – overnight or for a few days or more. This works well if relatives are going on holiday and are very popular at Pesach (Passover).
Short stays are also perfect for getting back on your feet following an operation or period of illness.
Local Authority funding
Day services and short breaks may be paid for by your Local Authority. Whether or not you will be eligible will depend on you having an assessment of your care needs and financial circumstances.
Our adult social work team can advise about applying for funding, eligibility criteria and the assessment process.
